Not-So-Smart Car

It doesn't seem very smart to own a "Smart Car."  They really don't function on the highway, unless the function you desire is to be squashed like a bug.  They're obviously made for the city, with rather obvious limitations, but if you live in a city big enough that everything you need is in that city, then you really don't need a car, and in fact a car is often a pain.  Small car, small market.  Maybe a smart idea in Europe and Asia, but not so much here.

Check Mate

We've all seen checkpoints on roads, usually for sobriety, but I've lately seen signs in some places well ahead of the checkpoint identifying what's ahead.  I guess it varies by state and the purpose of the roadblock, but whether two miles ahead for immigration (used to see that one in Southern California), or two blocks for DMV, who exactly do you catch when you tell them you're going to catch them?
