A meeting is a gathering where people speak up, say nothing, then all disagree

I've been in a lot of meetings with faculty and administrators over the years, and what I've learned is that if you find yourself at a table where everyone is drinking diet soda or bottled water, is wearing glasses, is not particularly well dressed, and says the same thing three times, you are at a meeting with faculty. And if you are there long enough, you will see that a good deal of the meeting will be about planning a meeting. And finally, the number of people at the meeting is inversely proportional to the productivity of the meeting.
